FCC Proposes $2.25 Million Fine for Cable Operator's Unauthorized Retransmission of Broadcast Signals
July 9, 2013 On June 24, the FCC issued a Notice of Apparent Liability against a cable operator for retransmitting six broadcast station signals without the broadcaster’s consent. The proposed fine was set at $2,250,000.
FCC Responds to Congressional Inquiry on CALM Act Enforcement
July 9, 2013 On June 27, FCC Acting Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn responded to a letter from Congresswoman Anna Eshoo about the FCC’s work implementing and enforcing the CALM Act. Chairwoman Clyburn’s response noted that the FCC takes “seriously [its] responsibilities under the CALM Act,” will continue to educate the public on the CALM Act, and “will work with the industries to ensure compliance.”

FCC Cites Florida Motel for Signal Leakage and Aeronautical Frequency Violations
June 21, 2013 Continuing a recent trend in signal leakage enforcement action, the FCC Enforcement Bureau’s Miami Office recently cited the Parkway Inn Motel in Miami Springs, FL for failing to notify the FCC of the operation of its non-cable MVPD system in the aeronautical band and also for exceeding the FCC’s signal leakage limits.
