FCC DTV Viewability Rule to Sunset on December 12, 2012
September 21, 2012 Last June, the FCC released a Report and Order announcing that the FCC’s dual must-carry, or “viewability,” rule will sunset December 12, 2012. The FCC’s 2007 “viewability” rule requires cable operators with hybrid analog-digital systems to carry digital must-carry signals in both analog and digital format.
FCC’s Enforcement Bureau Proposes $236,500 Fine to Cable Operator For Failing to Install Emergency Alert System Equipment and Failing to Comply with Signal Leakage Rules
September 7, 2012 On September 6, 2012, the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau Office in Tampa issued a Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture and Order (“NAL”) to St. George Cable, Inc., for failing to install and maintain emergency alert system (EAS) equipment, failing to operate its cable system within required signal leakage limits, failing to register its system with the FCC, and failing to respond to a Bureau order. The potential fine was set at $236,500.
FCC Filing Window for Fiscal Year 2012 Cable Regulatory Fees Closes Thursday, September 13th
September 7, 2012 On Monday, August 13, 2012, the FCC opened its automated filing and payment system (“Fee Filer”) for filing and payment of FY 2012 regulatory fees. The FCC will accept FY 2012 regulatory fees through 11:59pm, ET, September 13, 2012. Below, we cover the payment process and fee amounts.
August 25, 2012 Cable operators must file with the U.S. Copyright Office their Statement of Accounts (Form SA1-2 or SA3) and pay any royalty fees due for the January 2012 – June 2012 accounting period by August 29, 2012.
August 25, 2012 The next Form 477 filing is due September 4, 2012 (reporting data as of June 30, 2012). For this filing, the FCC’s electronic system will only recognize 2010 Census tract codes.
