Prevent Being Overbuilt by Connect America Fund (“CAF”) Money
Make Sure Your Systems Are Accurately Represented on the National Broadband Map
Price cap carriers, such as AT&T, Verizon, CenturyLink, Frontier, Fairpoint, Windstream, and Consolidated Communications, have until July 24, 2012 to accept their portions of the $300 million CAF Phase I support. Price cap carriers may use CAF Phase I support to deploy broadband services to areas (i) without any broadband service, or (ii) that have service speeds below 768/200 kbps. These carriers must certify, based on the National Broadband Map, that they will not spend CAF money on locations where they know other providers are offering 768/200 kbps broadband service.
* Cable operators offering broadband service near a price cap carrier should ensure the National Broadband Map accurately reflects their broadband service territory.
* If a cable operator’s service territory is not accurately reflected, it should inform the carrier as soon as possible (via certified mail to the carrier’s local office), and provide detailed information (such as addresses) about the locations where it offers 768/200 kbps broadband services.
